Thank you to Ubisoft for providing me with a copy of Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2012 and sponsoring this fitness diary series. Please click here to learn more about Ubisoft. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective. All opinions are my own.

As you can tell by my previous three posts in this diary series, I really do love this game. It’s provided a bunch of challenging and entertaining workouts for my entire body and a few of my friend’s bodies too. (Sorry Kristen – the soreness will wear off soon!) This week, my mission was to utilize a special portion of this game from Humana which features workouts for “Active Kids”, “Strengthen your Heart” and “Aging with Grace”. Well, I must admit that I expected this to be, by far, the most creative portion of YSFE 2012. I mean, when it comes to creating workouts for kids especially, the sky is the limit! Kids of all ages love movement an they love silliness, so the potential is and was terrific. As well, the aging body is really unique and this was another grand opportunity to utilize some clever training techniques.

It pains me to say that I was completely disappointed with this section as a whole. In fact, I would flat out fire and black ball the person who designed it. How could an amazing company like Ubisoft let this happen? I’ll never know. I actually enlisted my very active daughter to participate in the “Active Kids” workout and by move #2 she was bored and creating her own fun moves just to watch herself dance on the TV screen. This workout was NOT created for kids, in fact … it’s just a fairly lame version of the cheesy “kickboxing” routines in aerobics classes nationwide. Oh … it’s SO bad. Literally, it consisted of “squat punch”, and “shuffle punch” sequences forever. Why not add a silly booty shake, some funky jumping or … anything else? It was dry and sad, and for all of the amazing things this YSFE 2012 has to offer, they should be ashamed by this.

The “Strengthen your Heart” routine was nothing more than standard aerobics and the “Aging with Grace” portion was just a slower version of aerobics too. I’m so angry about these segments, because the rest of the game is fantastic. I feel like a jerk speaking negatively about any portion of this game, because I do love it so much and you can see why by reading my first three posts about it. I’ve vowed to be honest when it comes to fitness though, so I’m compelled to reveal these atrocities. So! I still say to go after this game and make it a part of your fitness training. Just … ignore this section completely. Argh! My recommendation? If you want your kids or older family members to use this game, let them use it! They’ll LOVE the dancing, yoga, boot camp, warm-ups and more. This “extra” section though, is just a big bummer.

Next week we’ll provide info about the Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2012 game we’re giving away, so don’t forget to come back and check that out.

this game sounds more geared towards the average couch potato (lol). They need to make an advanced/pro version for super fitness people like you 😉
