About to begin his fifth Olympic Games, 36-year old Bode Miller sat out a full regularly scheduled ski season in an effort to ensure a clean bill of health for Sochi. Seeking his sixth medal, Miller is as prolific an athlete as they come. However, he has not been without injury in his lengthy run as a professional skier. In 2001, Miller suffered a fracture in his left knee, and last spring had surgery in preparation for these Olympics. Since the surgery, Miller claims that he his knee will be at its strongest in over a decade when the Sochi Games begin.
Miller will need to remain focused over the next month, though; he is mourning the recent death of his younger brother and overcoming an intense custody battle for his son while simultaneously adapting to married life over the past two years—the latter of which is undoubtedly helping him through the more difficult times.
Watch Bode go for the gold in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games, competing in all five alpine skiing events.
