Miley Cyrus got the world talking about her VMA performance with Robin Thicke. She Twerked, jerked and did some other things most of us couldn’t erase from our minds if we tried. Unsurprisingly, Twerking is on the rise and if you’re going to do it … we want you to at least make it an effective part of your workout!
Twerking requires you to use your core, hamstrings, legs, lower back, and most importantly the glutes. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, energetic dancing can burn between five and eight calories per minute. If you Twerk for about an hour, you could scorch somewhere between 300 and 480 calories. Not bad!
Don’t worry about doing it alone, many dance studios are now offering Twerking classes. Go in with a group of friends, and drop it low with your new dance moves. Vixen Workout is rapidly becoming one of the most popular Twerking societies. They are opening up in many cities, and you can take classes in their studios. You can also do it privately at home. Whatever works for you!
For the best results, you must hit every move hard. Go all out! Do it regularly, or add to a varied workout including other fun cardio and strength moves. If the concept of Twerking used to make you think “Ewww!”, turn that frown upside down and consider it a funky new way to get fit!
