Did you know that certain foods directly affect your skin? Some of the foods you love and enjoy most may actually be the cause of the big pimple popping up on your forehead the next morning. I’m sure we can all agree that having a breakout is no fun, so check out this list of foods that are known to trigger your skin and cause a breakout. This by NO means makes these foods off-limits. The key is to consume these foods in moderation, gauge your responses to each, and create a healthy balance with each and every meal.
Spicy Foods
Foods that have a little kick to them are known to trigger an inflammatory response in the skin and clog pores. Be mindful of how much spice you are consuming daily.
Dairy Products
Calling all milk and cheese lovers! These dairy products are known to spike blood sugar levels which directly correlates to the pimple-producing hormones in our bodies. Limit your dairy intake for clearer skin.
Chocolate
Frequent consumption of chocolate, which is high in refined sugars can also trigger an inflammatory response which increases the risk of a breakout. From a skin standpoint, indulging in dark chocolate may be a better choice.
Sugar
Foods with high levels of sugar cause a spike in the body’s insulin levels. Higher levels of insulin increase the production of oils in our skin which triggers a breakout. Most of us have a sweet tooth, but it is important we enjoy our sugars moderately.
Fried Food
Typically, these types of foods are loaded with oils that cause inflammation all throughout the body and skin. Although these foods are quick ‘n easy to eat and obtain, there are many alternatives that are equally as tasty and better for your skin!
