Feeling a bit stiff or tense getting out of bed or putting on your shoes? Stretch it out! Stretching for just 10 minutes every day can help alleviate some of the pain and soreness associated with tight muscles and joints.
Although stretching after exercise and strenuous activity is very important, stretching to keep your body moving and grooving regularly is equally as valuable. Our bodies, the vehicle we depend on and trust to produce movement are meant to be moved freely and in multiple directions – that’s called “mobility”. Mobility increases quality of life and decreases our chances of sprain, strains, tears, and worse. Stiff and tight muscles also may lead to poor posture which could make a person look frumpy, unconfident, and aged beyond their years. Stretching will help to improve proper body alignment and elongation of muscles. Our performance in everyday activities will also be enhanced by stretching as our muscles and joints will be best prepared for activity.
Stretching can also help you decompress and put your mind at ease. All you need is yourself and some space, no equipment or outside influence is required. It isn’t always meant to look pretty, but it is certainly meant to feel fabulous. This is for YOU!
So, reach for your toes or put your booty in the air and lean into your downward dog. It’s time to be bendy.
