The recap of the 2021 Buffalo Marathon marked a significant return to in-person racing after the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Held on June 27, 2021, the event welcomed hundreds of runners eager to compete on the fast and scenic course through the heart of Buffalo, New York.
In the men’s division, Peter Rindfuss delivered an outstanding performance, winning the marathon with a time of 2 hours, 31 minutes, and 12 seconds. He was followed by Martin Zegarelli, who finished second in 2:46:11, and Bob Biniaszewski, who secured third place with a time of 2:49:29.
In the women’s division, Lindsay Piraino claimed victory, crossing the finish line in 3 hours, 10 minutes, and 57 seconds. Emma Diehl followed closely, securing second place with a time of 3:12:09, while Lucy Brash finished third in 3:17:57.
The marathon course, known for its flat and fast terrain, took runners through some of Buffalo’s most iconic landmarks, including the historic Allentown district, downtown Buffalo, and the Lake Erie waterfront. The favorable weather conditions on race day contributed to a successful event, helping many runners achieve personal bests.
Beyond the marathon, the Buffalo Marathon Weekend included a half marathon, 5K, and relay races, ensuring opportunities for runners of all skill levels. A Health and Fitness Expo offered participants access to vendors, workshops, and race preparation resources.
The event concluded with post-race celebrations, featuring live music, refreshments, and award ceremonies, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere.
