Backpacking is traditionally known as traveling around a certain location with all of your valuable belongings in one little backpack. Many people use this form of travel in Europe or Asia as it is usually very cost-effective. However, you can backpack your way around any place at all. Folks who travel using this backpacking method have the benefit of burning far more calories than any traditional way of walking.
A 160 pound backpacker with a just a mere 10 pound load on their back can burn 300 calories in 30 minutes walking at a normal pace. For every 10 pounds that you add to the weight on your back it will increase the calories burned by 50 per 30 minutes. So if you normally enjoy taking a walk in the morning, afternoon, or evening; try throwing 10, 20, or even 30 pounds in a backpack just as a little added bonus to walk with. You can also substitute that backpack for a weight vest. Either way, it’s nice to travel the same distance while slashing more calories than usual.
