In this series, Surprising Ways to Slash 500 Calories, we discuss a variety of ways you can easily eliminate 500 calories from your daily routine resulting in an easy weight loss of one pound per week. You may not even think these food or beverage items “count”, but they do. Our job is to help you in your weight loss goals and even if you were to burn one less calorie day; it would add up over time.
When the average person thinks of doing cardiovascular exercise to burn fat, they think of running down the street or doing 30 minutes on the treadmill; however, there are much better more creative ways to get in your cardio. It can even be fun! Have you considered rollerblading as an alternative to that semi-scary boot camp class? You should!
Rollerblading has the potential to burn even more calories than running. In one study, it was shown that a person of 160 lbs could burn up to 913 calories in just one hour of rollerblading which also means you could burn 457 calories in just 30 minutes! Rollerblading simply burns a heck of a lot of calories because you are traveling a greater distance over time with the same or a larger amount of effort as jogging.
Another creative calorie burning substitute would be ice skating. Even if you don’t live in a northern state where you have access to frozen ponds, most states offer plenty of indoor ice skating facilities for a fun day of fitness at a fair price. Ice skating can also be very physically demanding, especially if you don’t have the greatest form. Try it!
