*According to the A.C. Nielsen Co., the average American watches more than 4 hours of TV each day (or 28 hours/week, or 2 months of nonstop TV-watching per year). In a 65-year life, that person will have spent 9 years glued to the tube. Understanding that the average person claims not to have time for daily workouts, TV may have something to do with it. Of course, basic things like jobs, children, doctor visits get in the way, but TV time is simply not a valid excuse to be unfit or overweight.
If you’re stuck on watching your favorites shows, why not make them an active part of your fitness training for one hour? Spend all actual show-time doing cardio such as: treadmill walking or running, jumping jacks, jumping rope, running in place or doing step aerobics. Spend the 17 -20 minutes of commercial time doing strength training exercises such as: push-ups, crunches, squats, weight training and more. Interval training is proven to burn more calories and fat than straight on cardio, so it’s possible this TV plan can actually benefit your body. Work out vigorously during TV time and you’re sure to burn at least 500 calories!
Remember, unlike regular surfing, couch surfing burns zero calories.
