For many students the months leading up to our spring break are some of the healthiest of the year. The idea of having the perfect beach body is enough to keep us temporarily out of the bar and away from fast food. Then that highly anticipated week comes and with an effort to make up for missed partying and pigging out, it all goes out window. We can all relate with the urge to let loose and have some fun, but it doesn’t have to be this extreme. You have to ask yourself – did you really spend the last two months busting your butt in the gym to eat and drink it all away in one week?
Incorporate a few of these fun and simple healthy choices into your spring break.
- Snorkeling: If you’re vacationing in a beach destination take a day to go on a snorkeling excursion. Most beach destinations offer them.
- Bike riding: This is a great way to get some exercise and explore the city you’re visiting.
- Walking: Depending on the layout of your destination, take every chance you can to walk.
- Eat sensibly: Yes, it is vacation a you do deserve to treat yourself a little bit, but try and use common sense with your diet. Little choices like grilled instead of fried and portion size can make all the difference.
- Hit the gym: Sure you’re not going to spend hours in the gym doing hardcore workouts. Short runs on the treadmill, or a few sets of weights can boost energy and minimize loss of progress.
- Kayak: Rent a kayak or canoe and explore the beach from a different prospective.
It doesn’t matter if you get exercise directly, or while enjoying a fun activity what matters most is that you simply get moving.
