Colin Egglesfield is one hot number. He’s been plastered all over billboards and magazines as the official BODY of Calvin Klein, underwear, was part of the “All My Children” cast for years, the new “Melrose Place” and is now starring alongside Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin in the film “Something Borrowed”. He’s drool-worthy, talented, smart and sweet enough to share some tips on earning a beach body with all of you. Oh! And, just to throw in a shameless plug … Colin’s endorsement of The Everything Flat Belly Cookbook, authored by yours truly is on the first page of my book. He and I, see eye to eye when it comes to fitness. Colin shared his tips for earning a lean and hard body, so play close attention, follow his advice, and prepare to stun in the sun!
Colin says …
- Run! You can do all the weight training in the world, but nothing burns off that winter weight better than a good 30-45 run at least three times a week. I like to start out doing about 30min and then gradually work up to an hour over the course of a few weeks as I start to get my stamina back. I love to run outside by myself with my headphones and some great music on my iPod and just go! It’s my time to be alone with my thoughts, and anything that might be on my mind always seems to be a lot clearer after a good run.
- Lift weights two to three times a week. I mainly do chest, shoulders, and stomach on one day and then back, legs, biceps and abs on the next day. I do a combination of all body parts on the third day. Mix that with some good cardio and you should be good to go.
-
Hire a personal trainer to get you started. Sometimes after I’ve been working out for a while, I like to hire a personal trainer to mix things up and show me something new. If you work with a personal trainer, try another one for a bit just so you don’t get too comfortable. As with anything, you can’t make any gains in life if you get too comfortable. You’ve got to push yourself a bit to get to a different place.
- Find a picture of someone who has the body you want or is as healthy looking as you wish to be and pin it on your wall. The gym I used to work out at when I was growing up had pictures of Arnold Schwarzenegger on the walls. Whenever I looked at them, they inspired me to work harder. I knew that even if I never could become as big and strong as he was, I knew I would be bigger and stronger than I was presently. You have to have a goal. A clear picture in your mind about what it is that you want.
- Start eating lighter foods such as salads. In the winter when it’s cold out, I love to eat hot heavy foods that keep me warm such as spaghetti. When it starts to get a little nicer out, I feel like I can get by not eating as much. Just don’t get too hung up on counting every calorie you intake.
- Try drinking a full glass of water before you sit down to eat to help make your stomach feel full. Only eat until you start to feel full as well.
- Don’t eat everything on your plate just because its there. Try smaller servings at first and if you are still hungry then get a bit more.
- Portions tend to be very big at restaurants. Order a meal, tell the waiter to bring half to the table and wrap the other half in a to-go bag right away so that it ever gets on your plate. Then you won’t be tempted to eat all of it. Save the second portion for another time….. but not right before you go to bed!
- Don’t eat after 8-9pm, or generally 2-3 hours before you go to bed. That is key.
