Halloween is just around the corner, temptation to over indulge in this sweet holiday grows more and more as the days approach. Before you go running through the candy aisle snatching up bags like they were stuffed with money, check out this spooky, sweet treat:

Scare-amel Apples

Ingredients:
Any selection of eating apples (e.g. Gala, Granny Smith, Fuji, etc.)
Caramel
Meal worms and/or Crickets
Skewers

Directions:
Pre-heat oven to 375 F (190 C)
Bake the bugs on a baking tray for approximately 15 minutes. They will look golden and crunchy and smell nutty when done. Make sure to turn them over halfway through to prevent burning and ensure even cooking.
Slowly melt the caramel in the microwave on low heat or gently above a saucepan of simmering water.
Skewer the apples and cover them in caramel.
Roll the sticky apples in the bugs and place them in the fridge to cool and harden.
