Ryan Lochte has been on the world’s swimming stage for many years, but his recent defeat of Michael Phelps in the World Championships have made Lochte a favorite for Gold in the London Olympics. He recently sat down with Men’s Health for an interview about his training, expectations, and how it feels to finally beat Michael Phelps.
He finally beat Michael Phelps and this World Champion is hungry for more: “The World Championships were just an appetizer of what I’m capable of doing.”
He has a ferocious spirit for training and races: “Pain, tolerance, endurance—when it comes down to that point, there’s always something left. You just have to find it.”
Staying positive despite losing to Phelps in a race in March: “During heavy training, I’m not great, because I’m so beat up.”
Even though he’s accomplished so much: “I know I haven’t had those perfect swims yet.”
He has a secret weapon in is post workout nutrition. “My recovery meal is two grilled chicken breasts with Alfredo sauce, whole grain spaghetti, and a salad with lemon juice and olive oil.”
