runDisney knows how to makes races fun. They’re world-renowned for their Disney Marathon Weekend, Princess Half Marathon and Expedition Everest Challenge, but this inaugural race is the one that has got me hooked for decades to come. Yes, I say this, even though I was sidelined from this event due to injury. Darn it! This past Saturday night, my role was to cheer and report as 10,000 runners and three wheel chair athletes took to the dark spooky streets and wooded trails of Disney World in Orlando, Florida. (My husband, Rob, ran the race and gave me the scoop on all the fun stuff that I couldn’t see. You’ll see pics of him in his Captain America shirt.)

The start came with thematic Twilight Zone music and fireworks which Disney is known for. Look, I’m a gal who partakes in local races all the time. They’re always very “nice”. But for those looking for a top-notch, full-blown entertaining run – you’ll never EVER beat a Disney race. This race took runners through totally spooked out wooded trails, a haunted Wide World of Sports arena and back through some super exciting turns at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. And where did the runners cross the finish line? At the Tower of Terror ride of course! Half of me was so happy to be able to cheer for and enjoy the success of the other runners. The other half of me wanted to roll up in a ball and cry because I was missing out on all the real fun. The photo gallery below is full of fun highlights as well as a quickie video segment I shot from the finish line. The most important thing you need to know is that you do not need to be in perfect shape to participate. There are one mile, 5K, 10 mile, half marathon, full marathon and GOOFY distances available. Folks of all ages, sizes and fitness levels take on these challenges and that means you should too. Register for this type of athletic fun by visiting runDisney.com. Registration for next years Tower of Terror 10 Mile race is not yet open, but there are plenty of choices at both Disney World and Disney Land available now and in the future!
