Rockports’s truWALKzero Sneakers – So Light you’ll Float

Well … you may not exactly float while wearing these shoes, but you’ll probably feel like you could. Rockport’s truWALKzero walking sneakers (for men and women) are truly the lightest pair of sneakers I’ve ever held in my experienced fitness pro hands. We’ve all heard claims about shoes being light weight, but these things are ridiculous. I’d compare them to the weight of a hoagie roll – without any meat in it.

So what’s the benefit of this type of shoe? They feel good! They allow for a spring in your step while bopping around town and would even be great for folks dealing with certain types of hip, leg or back weakness/injuries. My Mom, for example, has unfortunately had a variety of back surgeries and simply can’t wear heavy shoes. truWALKzero probably would be perfect for her. Now, that’s not a medical prescription or anything, but I do know they’d likely suit her needs.

These kicks were not designed for running. They do, however, offer enough structure and support for walking, weight lifting, using an elliptical machine or stepper, Pilates, cycling and other low impact activities. Oh yeah, they have great ventilation too, so your feet won’t get as sweaty as they would in a normal pair of sneakers. Love them! Retail price: $120.00

From Rockport:

truWALKzero is the culmination of years of research and testing, and is one of the lightest shoes that Rockport has ever designed. Drawing on Rockport’s rich and authentic heritage in designing flexible and lightweight shoes, truWALKzero takes cues from performance technologies with a unique sole, which incorporates flex grooves that boast amazing flexibility.

As a technologically modern style, the shoes are also infused with Rockport’s proprietary truWALK Architecture, which provides a natural full range of foot motion, from shock absorption at heel strike to forefoot flexibility during push off, courtesy of adidas adiPRENE cushioning technology. Additionally, the upper consists of a synthetic mesh that wicks away moisture to keep feet dry, and a padded collar and tongue to help prevent blisters and lace bruising. Not only are truWALKzero shoes stylish and comfortable, they also have an EVA outsole that helps to reduce foot fatigue for all day comfort.

To illustrate the ultra-lightweight quality of the shoes and to evoke how wearing the truWALKzero shoes is like walking on air, Rockport will be working with world-renowned performance artist Johan Lorbeer (http://www.johanlorbeer.com) on April 5th to create a live installation at the corner of West 43rd Street and 6th Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, highlighting the new truWALKzero footwear. Johan’s specialty is creating gravity defying installations in public spaces: utilizing his own exclusive technology and harnesses that are hidden under clothing, Johan affixes himself and his team of actors to the walls of buildings, bridges, columns and walls, creating the optical illusion that they are literally floating in the air.

“We think that truWALKzero will be one of Rockport’s blockbuster shoes for Spring 2012,” says Daniel Tschuemperlin, Senior Vice President of Product and Brand Management, The Rockport Company. “It’s unique, compelling design as well as flexibility and lightness proposition make it one of the most technologically advanced shoes that we have ever designed. It also emphasizes our continued commitment to creating some of the most lightweight and forward thinking shoes on the market. We have over 40 years of innovation in the lightweight category with collections such as DresSports, and truWALKzero is a modern take on lightness for our metropolitan professional consumers. We are confident that our customers will respond favorably to the new launch.”

Rockport will initially launch two styles of the truWALKzero shoes for men and one style for women. The truWALKzero T-Toe Sport for men is a sleek, low profile, lace-up sneaker with leather/mesh uppers available in black/charcoal. The truWALKzero Wingtip is a dressier low profile, lace-up sneaker for men with wingtip detailing, available in black/charcoal and dark brown/orange. For women, the truWALKzero Welded Lace Up is a ghillie style, low profile sneaker in two colorways: black/dark gull grey/lavender, warm grey/white/salmon pink. All the styles include contrasting soles for an added color pop.

To support the truWALKzero collection at retail, Rockport will also introduce a global integrated marketing campaign in 2012 including. a consumer contest for a trip on a zero gravity flight (in the US & Canada) with a pair of truWALKzero shoes for themselves and a guest by entering at Rockport.com, Rockport.ca, in select Rockport stores, via a QR code, a text message or email.

Additionally the launch will be supported with in-store window displays, and a social media campaign. truWALKzero footwear have suggested retail values between $120 and $140, and will be found at Rockport retail stores worldwide and select mid-tier retailers, as well as through Rockport.com beginning April 2012.
