I’m not a big fan of barefoot running. The main reason is because … OUCH! It scares me. My feet have been abused by decades of barefoot kickboxing and running, so the thought of “not enough support” has seemed scary. But these Reebok ZQuick sneakers enticed me, and I’ll tell you why. They were inspired by hi-performance, Z-Rated tires which are rated for speeds in excess of 149mph and ZQuick delivers sports-car handling for your feet. I couldn’t resist.
Now that I’ve delved in to my first pair of running shoes that can actually be described as lightweight, I can honestly say that I like them! I feel more bouncy and move more easily. The shoes are cut low with soles that grip the ground (maybe like a race car would), so I’ve felt a little more agile while cross-training in my gym. They also help me bounce from lunges to squat jumps to the jump rope with ease. I feel stable but light, and the technology promised, is the product received.
My favorite features of the Reebok ZQuick Running Shoe
- The lightweight Bootie fit system feels like a sock. It’s soft and breathable. I’d be comfortable going sockless.
- The soles look like tires with a jagged up-down-up-down design, bend easily for mobility and grip the floor like a speedster would the road. Why didn’t somebody think of this before?
- They’re light, but still supportive. My feet are chicken; hey fear more damage. The ZQuick is protective enough to calm my nerves.
- They’re pretty. Let’s not pretend that doesn’t matter any more. Sneaker designers are becoming more and more creative. The ZQuick is bright, sharp and fun.
You’ll find the Reebok ZQuick at shoe stores and sporting good stores everyone. You can also order a pair at Reebok.com.
These shoes will make you UNNATURALLY QUICK!
Good to know!
The key to good handling tires is maximum ground contact; in tires it’s called a contact patch. It’s the amount of area in contact with the ground. More area is better for handling and the more surface area means more distributed force and better grip.
For handling, Reebok also wanted to take into account the dynamics of the foot itself. Your foot changes in dimension when you put weight on. When your foot is completely weighted, it’ s about 5mm wider than when it’s in the air. That’s your own naturally handling feature. Your foot spreads out on impact to distribute force over a broader base. To accommodate for that natural handling feature Reebok built slashes into the bottom unit that go all the way to the lasting board so that your Z-series shoe spreads with you.
