Nuts are a superb all-natural form of protein and healthy fats. They’re crazy popular during the holidays too. However, nuts are probably the most over-abused food on the planet. Why? We simply eat too many of them when we have the chance. Sticking to a single serving is quite a challenge, because the combination of salty crunchiness, small size and crazy high calorie content puts us in a pickle.  Did you know the recommended single serving size of nuts is one ounce? Yep. And for one ounce, this is what you’ll get.

Want a Brazil nut? You can only have 10-12 of them for a whopping 190 calories

Almonds: 23 for 160 calories

Cashews: 18 for 160 calories

Hazelnuts: 21 for 180 calories

Pistachios: 49 for 160 calories

Peanut: 28 for 160 calories

Pine Nut: 167 for 190 calories

Listen, we love nuts and we think you should too. Just be smart about it. It makes absolutely no sense to gain weight indulging in something so good for you! Prepare to count your nuts and consume only a small amount.  Buy nuts inside their shells to force you to slow down and only eat one nut at a time. While we’re on that subject, avoid tossing handfuls of ANYTHING down your throat like an NFL linebacker eager to gain weight . Unless of course you ARE an NFL linebacker desperate to pack on pounds.

Nuts are a spectacular choice, just remember that they require you to exercise restraint in order to do more good than hard.
