Missy Jones, 38, West Palm Beach, FL, Fitness Instructor – Bikram Yoga and Xtend Barre
Why do you do Xtend Barre? Moving my body makes my mind, body and spirit feel alive and empowered! Xtend Barre has sculpted my body and I love the results.
How long have you been doing it? I was introduced to Xtend Barre about 1 year ago.
Do you compete in Xtend Barre? I’m not aware of any competitions for barre workouts but I’m game for anything. Let’s make it happen! I have competed in yoga competitions though.
Most challenging aspect: I grew up playing sports – soccer and swimming – so I am strong but not overly graceful or exceptionally coordinated. Following the choreography is what I find the most mentally challenging. As far as physical challenges, the “chair plies” at the barre are a killer on the quads. I challenge anyone to try it without having one’s legs shake furiously.
Most fun aspect of Xtend Barre: It’s great to be in a group setting, listening to fun music, laughing, grunting and groaning the entire way through the workout. Somehow we manage to laugh!
Most rewarding aspect of Xtend Barre: I feel so much stronger and so much more empowered from the positive changes that I have seen in myself. I’m never going in a backward direction. I plan on pushing forward!
Who/what inspires you when you’re feeling weak? I look at the other women who are working so hard during the Xtend Barre workout and realize that we are all working together. We share each other’s energy. I remind myself that no matter how difficult my Xtend workout may be, I am so incredibly grateful for my health and physical strength.
Advice for others who’d like to get started: Make a plan, set a goal and let nothing dissuade you. Once you begin to move your body and take care of yourself you’ll ask yourself why you didn’t do this for yourself sooner. Nothing feels better than great health and wellness!
Your must-have equipment for Xtend: You can check the official Xtend Barre website for locations (http://xtendbarreworkout.com). During class we utilize a ballet barre, light hand weights, pilates mat, yoga strap, and a stretch band.
Favorite training song: Stronger
Favorite healthy food: I love all veggies but this week I am obsessed with brussel sprouts!
Favorite not-so-healthy food: Candy – I know, I know…I’m working on breaking this habit!
Funniest /weirdest/most awkward experience doing Xtend: Thankfully nothing weird has happened yet but my life is like a sitcom so it’s just a matter of time.
