How much weight have you lost? 60 pounds
How’d you lose it? Rather than eating three large meals a day, I ate six to seven smaller meals a day and only ate enough food to hold me over until the next meal. Instead of focusing on cardio or weightlifting, I did equal amounts of both every day.
What prompted your weight loss? I lost the weight because I was tired of be embarrassed when going to the beach or playing in a “shirts vs. skins” basketball game. It’s not that I wasn’t happy with who I was, I was just unhappy with the way I looked.
How long did it take? It took about a year to lose the weight.
What was the hardest part? The hardest part was changing my eating habits. Going from three meals to six small meals is a difficult routine to get used to.
Most fun part of your weight loss? It was getting complements from people as I was losing all the weight, and being able to keep up with my friends during workouts.
Most rewarding experience: When I got messages from people asking me to write workout and meal plans for them because they wanted to change their lives around like I did.
Who/what inspires you when you feel like quitting? My Grandfather inspires me whenever I feel like quitting. He went through so much coming to America from Cuba and never quit once.
How has this weight loss changed your life? Not only do I feel more confident at work and out in public, but also I feel so much healthier and more energetic. My grades have even gone up since I started my workout regimen.
Have advice for others who’d like to lose weight? Don’t focus on the number on the scale. Workout and eat right because you want to get healthier and everything will fall into place.
Your must-have fitness equipment: Kettle Bells are my must-have fitness equipment, because they are so versatile and functional.
Favorite training song: “Remember the Name” by Fort Minor
Favorite healthy food: Steak!
Favorite not-so-healthy food: Pizza
Funniest experience during your weight loss journey: I lost most of my weight when I went off to college, so when I went back to visit my home town for the first time my friends didn’t even recognize me.
Future goals: To continue to live a healthy lifestyle for the rest of my life and inspire others to do the same.
Amazing success, Matthew! You’ve got from round to ripped and we’re impressed!
