Is Coffee Good for You or Not?

The delicious aroma of coffee grounds fill the air each morning, and that first sip of the smooth, rich, warm beverage is pure bliss. Whether it is for the energy-boosting caffeine, the social aspect of meeting to drink it, or even just for the taste, coffee is a staple each day for most people. However, there have been many controversies about whether it is benefits outweigh the negatives. Is it good for you? Is it bad for you? What is the truth?

There are both positives and negatives about coffee. With anything, too much of the stuff isn’t such a great idea. However, a cup each morning has some pretty decent benefits.. According to Coffee expert, Forrest Graves, of JumpinGoat Coffee Roasters, these are the nine great reasons why coffee (in moderation) can be good for you. Remember, drinking 10 cups a day is no good either. There are negatives to coffee consumptions as well – see that list below.

Benefits:

1. Lowers risk of skin and breast cancer.

2. Lowers risk of depression.

3. Linked to a reduction in diabetes.

4. Reduces inflammation.

5. Increased fiber intake.

6. Lowers risk of Alzheimer’s. 

7. Human hair growth.

8. Acne prevention and skin health.

9. Protection against cirrhosis of the liver and other diseases.

Negatives:

1. Linked to certain types of cancers.

2. May cause gastrointestinal problems.

3. Can cause jitters.

4. May disrupt sleep.

5. Can stain teeth brown or yellow.

6. May elevate LDL Cholesterol and blood pressure.

7. Two words – Coffee Breath!

8. High levels of coffee consumption during pregnancy is linked to still births.

9. Drinking coffee outside the home can be an expensive habit! One $3.00 coffee per day will cost you $1,095 a year.
