How to Become a Morning Exerciser

Once that alarm clock goes off bright and early, the last thing I bet you want to do is get up and workout. Trust me, I’ve been there. I used to be known to hit the snooze button seven times before actually getting my butt out of bed. But somehow, I’ve come to love working out in the morning. I’ve completely transformed into one of those obnoxious “morning people” who most people don’t understand. Even when I don’t have to wake up early, I choose to in order to get my workout in. In fact, I actually thrive off my morning workouts for many reasons.

  • It starts my day off right.
  • It jump starts my metabolism first thing.
  • If I feel like running outside, it’s much cooler and calmer in the morning.
  • I don’t have to worry about it later on when I’m tired from school or work.
  • I am more awake in the morning.
  • I make healthier choices all day.
  • I don’t have to worry about foods I’ve eaten during the day not sitting well with me during a workout.

I remember when I thought the people who woke up early were crazy. Once I started doing it though, I realized why those crazy people did it – it’s not really that bad!

Here are some ways you can transition into a morning exerciser:

1. Put your clothes out the night before. This is a life saver. Just wake up, throw on your clothes, and head out the door. No time is wasted searching for your stuff, and you’re less likely to back out.

2. Do something you enjoy. If you are dreading your workout, you will be more likely to skip out on it. Doing something you look forward to gives you the natural motivation to get up and get moving.

3. Plan ahead. Waking up and trying to wing  a workout may discourage you. Starting out with a plan will help you because you won’t have to think about it in the morning.

4. Go to bed and wake up the same time. Having a similar schedule every day will be easier for you to continue. If you go to bed at 2:00 am one night, then wake up late the next morning, the next night you may have a hard time falling asleep early enough.

5. Stick with it. Nothing is going to be easy the first few times! Eventually, you will get used to these early morning sweat sessions. Be consistent and it will become natural.
