I thought this was interesting and worth sharing. Just so you know, this is NOT a Fitzness contest – just an interesting press release with some information we found worthy enough to pass along.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: New York, NY.  Grace Foods, one of the largest companies on the beautiful island of Jamaica, is proud to announce our new “Healthy Up Program,” which runs from July 1st through August 2011. This exciting new venture features the “Lady of Grace” competition, a celebration of the quintessential woman on the go and her personification of a healthy blend between mind, body, and soul.

The Lady of Grace competition is simple, requiring only a photo of the contestant and a short summary of why she is the ultimate “Lady of Grace.” The search is centered in Grace’s two most vibrant Caribbean consumer markets, the New York Tri-State Area and Greater Miami. Grace Foods recognizes that their consumer base is predominantly women of color, a demographic that consistently over indexes in dietary related health issues like obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, and hypertension. All of these afflictions are easily preventable with a well balanced diet and appropriate supplements, both of which Grace Foods wholly endorse. Grace Foods Marketing Manager Andrew Collins has said, “ We are hopeful that this program will start to position Grace Foods as not just a company known for great tasting products but a company that offers healthy options as well.”

The winner will be announced at the beginning of September, their prize being a trip to Jamaica with 3 friends, complete with spa treatments, sunset cruises and much more. Accommodation will be provided by our sweepstakes partners; Jamaica Tourist Board, Breezes Resort & Spa-Trelawny, and Air Jamaica- Everything you love and more.

About Grace Foods:

Grace Foods is one of the Caribbean’s largest and most dynamic corporate entities. The company was started in Jamaica in 1922 as a small company of traders and wharf operators. Over the years, the company has expanded and diversified, growing from a privately owned enterprise to a public enterprise listed in the stock exchanges of Jamaica as well as Trinidad & Tobago.

Today, the Grace Kennedy Food group comprises a varied network of some 60 subsidiaries and associated companies located across the Caribbean, as well as in the United Kingdom and North and Central America (see organizational chart)

Our operations span a variety of fields: food processing and distribution, banking and finance, insurance and remittance services, as well as involvement in the retailing of building materials.  Grace Foods first developed their 2020 Vision in 1995, with a view to transform themselves from a Jamaican trading company into a global consumer group with Jamaican roots. 16 years down the line, the company has grown substantially in both size and strength if the growth in revenues, productivity, profits, and market value are anything to go by. Our mission continues to be satisfying the unmet needs of the Caribbean people, wherever we live in the world.

In the future, Grace Foods will be focusing on our beverage portfolio, which includes products like Coconut Water; a thirst quenching drink made with coconut pulp jelly, Nourishment; a vitamin enriched, milk based meal supplement, and an Aloe Vera Drink, made from Aloe Vera gel to help maintain good health as well as boost energy and prevent illness.
