Hate Running? Try these Summer Cardio Workouts Instead

Whether the goal of your workouts is a higher level of fitness or simply cosmetic improvement, consistently performing cardiovascular exercise is essential. Running is a popular choice, because it’s the most primal human motion and many people find a great deal of joy and solace in there daily runs.

Unfortunately, not everyone has such a fond affection for running. If you’re one these people or are just looking for something to break up your routine, there are plenty of interesting cardio options available.

Hiking: Get outdoors, enjoy nature and work your entire body traversing uneven trails. You’ll not only burn los of calories, you’ll strengthen your hip and ankles which get a great workout helping you maintain balance on such a bumpy surface!

Water Skiing: If you or one of your friends has a boat, you’re going to need to use it! Could there possibly be a more fun summer workout than cruising behind a speeding boat while your legs and core work insanely hard to keep you upright? Wiping out is even a fun part of this experience!

Video game fitness: The Wii and XBOX both offer a crazy amount of fun fitness options for indoor exercise.  “Games” offer karate, cheerleading, boot camp, Zumba, walking fitness, strength training, and more. It’s the ultimate excuse buster.

Swimming: Since summer is just beginning, this would be a great way to enjoy the warm weather. Swimming is easier on your joints than running, and the resistance of the serves as resistance training.

Rowing: If you have a boat then go for it! If not, then the ergometer (rowing machine) in the gym works just as well. Rowing is a great cardio workout that uses nearly every muscle in the body.

Boxing/Kick Boxing: If you’ve never boxed before, you are in for a surprise. These sports offer a heart pumping, breathtaking workout, which taxes your muscles completely while still being a lot of fun.
