Nearly half of American adults deal with back pain every year. The causes range from weak core muscles to bending over the wrong way , but where you put your wallet when you sit down may be the likely problem.
Most men keep their wallets in their back pockets. That’s fine when your standing up, but sitting on your wallet for long periods can really cause some problems. The wallet presses into the gluteal muscle which in turn puts pressure on the sciatic nerve. This pressure over time can cause a painful condition known as sciatica. Sciatica can cause pain and numbness in the leg, hips, and lower back. In addition to sciatica, a large wallet can cause other issues. Sitting on a wallet elevates on hip higher than the other. This imbalance can throw off the alignment of your spine and create all kinds of muscle tension issues.
Consider eliminating unnecessary cards from your wallet to make it slimmer or opt for a money clip instead. Sometimes the smallest things can make the biggest difference!
