Dr. Foster from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse’s Exercise and Health Program has studied music, and in particular … music tempos in order to see their effect on work output, desire to exercise and coordination. Through all of his research he has determined the best tempo range in songs for specific forms of exercise.
When finding the right music, Dr. Foster recommends using music with a strong beat and distinct rhythm throughout the song. Power walking should contain 137-139 beats per minute, running should be 147-169 beats per minute and cycling should have music that ranges from 135-170 bests per minute.
