Feel fat when you leave the movie theater? I think everyone can say “been there, done that.” First thing to consider? There is officially NO RULE that requires you to eat while enjoying a funny flick. It’s true! You can easily choose to eat something healthy before or after a trip to the movies. However, if you’re dying to support the economy one concession item at a time- you’ll just have to think twice about what you’re buying.
- Popcorn: According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), a large popcorn with butter can range from 1,170-1,460 calories and 22-64 grams of saturated fat. Instead, go with a small order of popcorn without adding butter for 225-350 calories and 2-18 grams of saturated fat.
- Candy: Stay away from chocolate and go for the fruit snacks at an average of 130 calories per bag. There’s less saturated fat and sugar and it won’t leave you guiltily comparing your chocolate-bloated belly with Jennifer Aniston’s washboard abs.
- Drinks: Stick to water or diet soda. Avoid the sugar altogether and save it for your food.
The most important thing for you to do is to simply get out of the habit of thinking you HAVE to pig out every time you watch a movie. It’s okay to splurge every now and then, but you don’t want your movie-going experiences to keep you from achieving your weight loss goals.
