Entering, training, and completing a race is a HUGE accomplishment. We’re talking, something that should be honored and displayed! You’re kids artwork and ribbons are up on your refrigerator, so why not create a little art display of your accomplishments as well? We saw this idea and absolutely LOVED it for all you racers out there! With a few supplies, and a little creativity, you can create a hanging board that will display your race bibs from the most memorable running events.
If you don’t save your race numbers but still want to show off your hard work, this craft can be adapted to display your medals and honors as well. Feel free to pick fonts and color schemes that blend nicely with your home décor in order for this craft to double as a memory display board and house decoration. If you aren’t the crafty type, these boards can be purchased online as well!
For the Bib Display, You Will Need:
A small, square piece of sturdy plywood
4 Hooks to Hang Bibs on, choose any hook style you like
Paint
Paint Brush
1 Saw Tooth Hook/Screws to hang the board
Power Drill
For the Medal Display, You Will Need:
A small, rectangular piece of sturdy plywood
8 Hooks to Hang Medals on, choose any hook style you like
Paint
Paint Brush
2 Saw Tooth Hooks/Screws to hang the board
Power Drill
The directions for both the medal and bib display boards are very similar. First, paint the plywood with your desired colors. Allow the background colors to dry, and then paint on your words or phrases. Something like, “Race Bibs” or, “Running Medals” are perfect for this type of display. You can even use stickers that are letters to add the wording and achieve a clean look. Mess around with exciting fonts and sizing to create an attention-grabbing phrase. Be sure to leave room for the hooks, medals, and bibs when painting on your words.
Next, you need to drill the holes in the wood in order to attach the front hooks. For the bib display, take your widest running bib and lay it on the wood. Mark a spot on both the right and left side of the wood where you want to attach the hooks and the bib will hook on. Drill the holes and screw in the hooks. Perform the same sizing maneuver for your most narrow bib, placing those hooks just above the first set as shown in the display picture. For the medal board, measure out 8 spots to place the hooks along the bottom, equally spaced apart. Drill 8 holes and screw in the 8 hooks.
You’re almost done! You just need to attach the saw tooth hook to the back of the board so you can safely hang up and display your racing memorabilia. For the bib display, place one saw tooth hook near the center and top of the back of the board and attach with the screws. For the medal display, place the saw tooth hooks on the right and left sides near the tops, making the hooks even so your display will hang level.
Now all that’s left to do is FILL IT. Get out there, race, and display all your hard work!! Friends and family will love seeing this kind of memorabilia around your home, sparking stories and fun memories from your active lifestyle. Make a few extra for your racing friends, or keep a couple on hand for yourself so when one fills up, you have another ready to go. You’ll love seeing these tokens of achievement on a daily basis, keeping you motivated and inspired to keep running!
