Do you ever wonder how boxers get such big, strong shoulders? Boxers punch in a forward motion which mainly works out their anterior deltoids, and no one can deny that punching a 100 pound bag or large opponent is a powerful way to build upper-body endurance and strength. Each punch requires a collaborative effort from the muscles of the back, chest, abs deltoids, biceps and triceps, which ensures every muscle above your hips gets in on the action. Don’t have a heavy bag or a partner to beat up? All you have to do is grab light weighted dumb bells and do slow punches with them. The reason you should punch slowly, is because thrusting dumb bells quickly could be damaging to your joints and you certainly wouldn’t want to accidentally bonk yourself in the face with hard weights. Try this simple routine:
- 2 lbs. x do as many reps as you can for one minute
- 5 lbs. x do as many reps as you can for 30 seconds
- 10 lbs. x do as many reps as you can for 30 seconds
This should absolutely fry your shoulders. Try it!
