Which Style of Yoga is Right for You?

For those of you who enjoy a more relaxed mind, body and spirit-filled workout,  you may want to consider yoga! Yoga works to strengthen and stretch your muscles while concentrating on your breathing through different body poses. By meditating while doing yoga, your mind is cleared and stress is forgotten, leaving you feeling calm and refreshed after each workout. There are various types of yoga, aiming at achieving different experiences. There are various types of yoga:

  1. Hatha is more of an introduction to yoga and its poses. Hatha is done at a slower pace then other types of yoga
  2. Vinyasa is based on the poses that flow with your breath. Vinyasa yoga tends to be more intense then Hatha yoga
  3. Ashtanga is a upbeat and intense form of yoga which has poses that are always done in the same order. It is a great workout because you are constantly moving through the poses.
  4. Iyengar, while doing this form of yoga you are most concerned with the alignment of your body. The goal of Iyengar yoga is to bring the mind body and spirit together for positive energy
  5. Bikram is also known as “hot yoga” as it is usually done in  a room ranging from 95 to 100 degrees. This is so your body can cleanse itself through sweating

Give a variety of yoga styles a try to see what’s  right for you! Even if you love hard core boot camps, pull-ups and lengthy runs, yoga may turn out to be the key to relieving stress and leaving you relaxed and at peace with yourself. Namaste!
