Fitness folks can be stinky, myself included. We exercise often, play sports and traditionally spend more time outdoors than those we lovingly refer to as “couch potatoes”. I’m not suggesting that couch potatoes always smell good … well you know. I’m just saying that  a direct result of our amazing athleticism can be a healthy stench. It’s probably best to start with a shower, but once your done with that, you’re going to have to deal with all of your stinky stuff. Do you have a stinky gym bag filled with stinky clothes? Is there a chance your sneakers smell like a sewer? How about the couch you plopped down on directly after your tennis match? Mmmhmmm – you know you plop down after an exhausting bout of boxing. To sum things up, we all stink and our stuff does too. So let’s talk about some ways to bring back a fresh scent to go with our fresh and healthy glow.

There are a few items on the market made just for us (the stinky ones), and these items are fortunately inexpensive, easy to use and available everywhere. Grab at least one of each, keep them on hand and you’ll keep your friends too.

  1. Febreze Sport Extreme Odor Eliminator: Yep, this was an obvious one, but it really works! Spray it on your furniture, in your car, and on anything else you’ve violated post-workout. I often run around my house spraying stuff if company’s coming over and I’m just not sure. You can watch the clever folks from Febreze pull one over on me (big time) here.
  2. Arm and Hammer Baking Soda: This stuff can be used to deodorize everything from your golf bags to your actual fitness equipment. See the full extent of what you can do with Arm & Hammer Baking Soda here. Did you know you can use this stuff in your hair as well?
  3. Downy UNSTOPABLES: Add these tiny little scent booster pellets to your washing machine and I promise you, every last foul smelling item you’ve put in will come out smelling fresh and fabulous. Even if you’ve mowed three lawns in the hot sun after completing a five mile run … you’ll love this stuff. **Drop a few in your shoes after each workout for a bit of extra help too!
