If you can’t put a check next to the proper footwear, then Houston – we have a problem. Not to worry though, this problem is very easily remedied. Proper footwear is vital to any workout. Without the right shoes, you can run into many issues including injury, pain, loss of motivation, fatigue and well … we’ll stop there. Now for some of you, appearance may be #1 on your list when selecting shoes, but you have to realize that the most vital component of choosing the right shoes is comfort and fit. There are still ways to stay stylish while ensuring proper performance.

  1. To start, be aware that different activities require different shoes. Whether you are a runner, walker, trail blazer, tennis player, basketball player and so on … there is an appropriate shoe for each activity!
  2. Next, you want to make sure you are wearing the right socks while trying on the shoes. This is because the weight of the sock is going to affect how your shoe fits. If you are wearing a thin sock while shopping, but usually wear thicker socks with your sneakers, make sure to bring the thicker socks to the store.
  3. Walk, run and jump around the store to see how comfortable the shoes really are. You definitely want to test the shoes out and get the proper feel for them before you make the purchase.
  4. Talk to the experts at the store. They may have the extra knowledge to be able to guide you in making the proper selection.
  5. If you can go shopping for your shoes at the end of the day, that would be ideal (if not don’t sweat it). Our feet tend to be more swollen at the end of the day which can be a true determiner of how the shoe is really going to fit.

With the right shoes, you’ll be able to consistently work towards become more fit, instead of just trying to rehab unnecessary injuries.
