1. Have a Passion for It 

Becoming a fitness trainer isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. It requires a broad range of skill sets, from strong interpersonal skills to commitment, and a great deal of discipline, for instance. Also, you have the highest chances of success in this industry if you’re a committed fitness freak rather than doing it just for the money.

2. Enroll in a Fitness Certification Course

Being passionate about fitness is only part of the journey to becoming a fitness trainer. You will also need to turn this passion into a profession that you will enjoy every day. To do so, you can either earn a college degree in exercise sciences or take the much shorter route of registering for a fitness certification course with a recognized organization.

There are several types of personal trainer certification courses, most of which take between a few months to a year or so. The one you choose will dictate a few things, including your knowledge, skills, specialization, and role in the industry. You could also take an online associate’s degree if you already have college credits or you don’t have enough time to commit to attending classes physically. The latter serves best if you’re looking to take your passion, role, or career to the next level.

3. Understand Certification Renewal and Specialist Certifications 

In many places, fitness training certifications expire every two or three years, necessitating renewal. Also, there are more than a few specializations in the now booming fitness training industry, so you can always pursue more certifications over time to expand your areas of expertise. In the case of the latter, you will need to enroll in a specialized course and pass the exams.

4. Pass the Certification Exams 

During your fitness trainer certification program, you will have to take and pass continuous assessment tests, alongside a final exam. Passing will open doors for you into this field. Most gyms and fitness centers require some sort of fitness certification to be hired. 

With this certification, you can either choose to look for a job or start your own personal training business, whichever you choose However, most people prefer getting employed first so they can hone their skills and acquire experience through on-the-job training.
