What inspired you to start doing races?
My Dad
Do you walk, run or run/walk, swim, cycle, do obstacles?
I run, swim and bike.
What distances do you do?
Marathon and IRONMAN
How many have you done?
I have done 11 Marathons, one IRONMAN, and three IRONMAN 70.3.
Favorite race and why:
Marathon; it is the perfect distance to test both physical and mental strength … and the race is over in three hours.
Least favorite race and why:
Obstacles. I don’t find them to be a true test of physical fitness.
Do you travel for races?
Yes
Does your race schedule become expensive?
Yes
How do you afford to make it happen?
I prioritize three races per year
Must-have gear on race day:
Tri-Bike, running shoes, nutrition, and a race kit.
Weirdest place you’ve ever chafed:
Nips
Hot weather or cold weather?
I race better in hot weather.
Favorite pre-race meal/snack:
Cliff Bar
Weirdest/funniest thing you’ve ever experienced at a race:
A man did the IRONMAN in full Fireman suit and tanks.
Worst experience during a race:
I bonked in a Florida Panhandle marathon. It was the worst I’ve ever felt.
Most awesome moment you’ve ever had at a race:
Finishing IRONMAN Chattanooga is my greatest accomplishment to date.
Your favorite part of participating in races:
The satisfaction of delivering on a goal that so few people can achieve.
How important are awesome medals to you?
Not very important

Marine Corps Marathon (Washington DC)

Who is your race hero and why?
My Dad, because he got me started and pushes me every day to be better.
What is the top race on your bucket list?
Boston and New York Marathons
What has been the best physical side effect of your participation in races?
The endorphin high I get from training each day.
Your advice for others who might be intimidated by signing up for a race:
Start small and work your way up. Anyone is capable of running a marathon if they commit to it.
