Social media is extremely tricky in certain aspects. Let’s be real; hundreds of people exaggerate and boast about various luxuries, filter their face to make themselves seem more attractive, or anything else to make them seem like their life is “one in a million.” Just because Instagram gives you the opportunity to post thousands of pictures doesn’t mean the posts are going to be believable.  This brings up the tricky question: Does social media determine whether you’re a hit or a miss? You can tell a LOT about a person by what pictures they’re posting. If someone is always posting about their club lifestyle and that’s not your jam, you need to draw the red flag and move on to your next contender. Here are some ways your dating credentials can be tested via social media:

1. That person who constantly updates their life through a status: Facebook gives us the opportunity to connect with friends and post about vacations, nights out for some fun with Sterlingslots.co.uk, etc. Nobody wants to read about why you hate your life. Please keep your personal life private. The last thing anyone wants to see is you whining everyday. This is HUGE with determining if you’re date-able. With putting your life on blast, you present that you can’t keep anything to yourself and may be hard to trust. This may seem like a minor detail, but is really something very significant.

2. ALWAYS being online: If you’re constantly posting on your social media pages, this shows that you LIVE on your phone or computer. More than likely, this person isn’t really as social as they claim to be and doesn’t spend many days outdoors or with other REAL people. Instead of appreciating what’s going on around you, your nose is stuck obsessing over who updated their Snapchat last. In real life, these over-sharers tend to be insecure, needy and egotistical—not exactly what you’d call a winning combo. Those who are overly involved in their social media sites will lose out on many dating opportunities.

3. Debbie Downer syndrome: If someone is always posting negative statuses, articles or depressing photos, this isn’t exactly your Prince Charming or Princess. This person has the Debbie Downer syndrome, and they will likely fill your life with drab misery if you let them. This person probably has a pessimistic attitude and more than likely doesn’t like to participate in fun activities.

4. The flashy post-er: Please spare the world of photos of your flashy cars, body parts and bank accounts! Not only are you coming off as inappropriate, but you’re only posting such things to seem cool, and that’s only distancing yourself from others. This type of social media fanatic comes off as conceited and better than everybody else.

While we don’t encourage you to spend YOUR life on social media, it can be a great tool to investigate your suitors. In the long run, you can’t meet Mr. or Mrs. Right if you’re personally addicted to either. Get up, get out, put your technology away and go meet actual humans and engage in legit conversations. The real world is full of fantastic real people!
