We have heard time and time again that composting is the key to an immaculate garden, but are you familiar with the actual benefits? We decided to dig up the dirt to discover why composting is not only beneficial for you and your gardening needs, but also the environment and your convenience! You may think that composting takes a lot of energy, but once you set up a system it is as easy as taking out the trash.

Convenience. After you have determined your composting system,  the ritual is extremely convenient. To compost properly you need to have a bin inside the house to place “green waste” like kitchen scraps. This bin is great while you’re cooking because it can sit on your counter top and ease the process of disposing waste. No more hearing the loud grind of the garbage disposal for you!

Helping the “green” endeavor. When you regularly compost, you are limiting the amount of food waste going to the landfill. Once I started using one in my household, it was incredible to see we cut our trash load in half. All of that trash can be turned to treasure for good use in your backyard.

Gardening benefits. The plant waste in your compost creates humus which enriches soil with moisture and tremendous amounts of nutrients. The added moisture allows you to water your plants less and actually causes them to grow stronger! For added tips on pain free gardening, check out this article.

All in all, composting is extremely beneficial especially for the green and gardening enthusiasts. Even if you are not an avid gardner, the benefits of less trash being sent to the landfill is reason enough to jump on the composting bandwagon.
