Yeah – this disgusting title is a little over the edge. I wish the facts surrounding the question were a little less grotesque and outrageous as well. Castorum, which is the scientific word for “dried beaver anal glands” is a popular ingredient commonly referenced on labels as a “food additive”. It’s found in a bunch of vanilla-flavored items. Ewww, right? Other popular and vile ingredients found in some of our favorite foods such as breads, bagels, cheeses, gum and colorful candies. Yep, these things are oozing with hair, sawdust, crushed bugs, sheep “secretions” and worse. I’m truly not trying to just gross you out; I’m just trying to say that it’s important to really KNOW what’s in the foods and drinks we choose to consume. The processing process leaves a lot of room for unpredictable things to make their way in to our unsuspecting mouths. My least favorite grossout food is referenced here, but to learn which of the foods referenced above contain which icky ingredient click here.
