How much weight have you lost? About 40 pounds!
Tell us what the “old you” used to be like? The old me would be watching from the sideline, always wondering how amazing it would be to run a mile, as I ate an entire pizza by myself.
What prompted your weight loss? Actually, I fell in love with running races and it led to my weight loss. I tell people all the time to find a passion for something that will yield a byproduct of what you want. When I focused on weight loss alone it felt like a job, so I wasn’t successful at it. When I focused on running, it wasn’t a job so it was easier to stick to and weight loss was an added bonus.
How did you lose the weight? Portion control and running. I never went into an insane strict diet, I always made sure I had healthier meals throughout the day than unhealthy ones. Add in the miles of training for races and it just came off.
How long did it take? About a year and a half since I became serious about running.
What was the hardest part? Keeping everything fresh and exciting, I find new races to inspire me because training has become mundane, new foods to try to keep me from just heading over to fast foods. It’s a lifetime commitment not a fad for me, so not becoming bored is hard work.
Most fun part of your weight loss? There are a few and you can make fun if you’d like, but I like the clothes! Wearing whatever I want instead of having to settle for what’s in the “big & tall” section is awesome.
Most rewarding experience? I haven’t mentioned it, but I am a Type II Diabetic, and checking my blood sugar levels and seeing my numbers lowering without medications is awesome.
Who/what inspires you when you feel like quitting? Easy! My beautiful wife and kids and … the “Sub-30 Club” on Facebook. It’s a running group that inspires, motivates, listens, and spills awesome all over the place!
How has this weight loss changed you life? It was hard losing it but I am doing it. So now everything that is hard in my life is doable and my weight loss taught me that. I am trying things I normally wouldn’t.
Have any advice for others who’d like to lose weight? Be honest with your effort. For the longest time, I would put out an effort of 4-5 out if 10 and believe that I was at a 7-8. I would also lie to myself about my eating habits. There is no such thing as an “Organic Doughnut”.
Your must-have fitness equipment? My Massage Envy membership, and sneakers with many miles left on them.
Favorite training song: “Timber” by Pitbull and Kesha
Favorite healthy food: EAS protein shake
Favorite not-so-healthy food: Steak, egg and cheese bagel from McDonald’s
Future goals: One goal and it’s to not stop. I have read about and have seen so many success stories end up on the wrong side again. I want this to be a lifelong lifestyle for me. My goal is to always keep getting back up when I fail.
Will … WE BELIEVE!!! We believe you WILL be fit for life, because you have stopped making excuses and have completed owned your actions. It was super fun meeting you at runDisney’s Disneyland Half and I look forward to see you again at a race in the near future. Congratulations on all of your success.
