Angela Miles – Stay at home mom –
How much weight have you lost? I have lost 93 pounds to date and I’m still working on losing more!
How did you lose it? One of the first things I did for my weight loss was to stop drinking pop, which prompted me to lose 12 pounds. I realized that I could lose so much more weight if I tried other healthy living practices. I started by walking and keeping a log of everything that I ate, and eventually I purchased a Fitbit activity tracker to challenge myself to walk even more. I also recently joined a gym to build some muscle and tighten things up.
What prompted your weight loss? I found out that I had a large ovarian cyst about the size of a medium watermelon, and the thought of me not knowing because of all my dangerous belly fat was enough for me to get busy taking off the weight.
How long did it take? I started my journey in February 2014, so it has taken me seven months so far on my weight loss journey.
What was the hardest part? The hardest part of my weight loss was starting it alone, but after I lost the first 45 to 50 pounds my husband started to eat healthier with me.
Most fun part of your weight loss? The most fun part of my weight loss is being able to play and have the energy to keep up with my little ones! I can go down slides and up jungle gyms, and we also hike and bike together as a family.
Most rewarding experience? Aside from being able to spend more time playing with my kids, the most rewarding thing is the feeling of being more healthy and energetic.
Who/what inspires you when you feel like quitting. When I feel like quitting, the old me inspires me to keep going. I don’t ever want to feel like that again. I also have my husband, children and father all rooting for me and I know they would never let me fail.
How has this weight loss changed you life? Losing weight has changed so many things about my life. From the clothes I wear (which are much easier to find than cute plus size clothing), to my self confidence which I now have, and my health. It has enhanced my life beyond measure.
Have any advice for others who’d like to lose weight? My best advice is to utilize MyFitnessPal.com or track your calorie intake and output yourself, and be completely honest about how much you are taking in and how many calories you are burning.
Your must-have fitness equipment. My must have fitness equipment is my yoga mat and my treadmill.
Favorite training song: It can vary from “I know You Want Me” by Pitbull to “Walk This Way” by Aerosmith. Really anything with a tempo that makes me want to walk a little faster.
Favorite healthy food: Fish is my favorite healthy food. Salmon and Swordfish can really help kill the craving for a fatty burger, and I feel good after I eat them. I am also a big fan of broccoli which you can eat so much of without going overboard on calories.
Favorite not-so-healthy food: This has to be a tie between Starbucks and pizza.
Funniest /weirdest/most awkward experience during your weight loss journey. I found one of the beginner 30 day fitness challenges on Pinterest involving sit-ups, planks and squats, and thought I would give it a try. After the first day, I was so sore that I couldn’t sit on the toilet or get out of the car like a normal person for an entire week!
Future goals: I still have goals to work on. I am only 14 pounds from my first goal, which will put me back at my high school weight. Once I hit that goal, I would like to lose another 30 pounds. This would put me right in the middle of my healthy weight range, giving me room to fluctuate up and down a little without having to worry.

stationed at Quantico together in 1990.
I have watched for Angela’s updates for the last several months and she has amazed me with each and every one. To start this whole mission on her own and stay with it says so much for Angela. Great job that shows a lot of dedication. Love you girl.
