We all want to be in great shape, but the idea of a perfect body is often not enough to get us to the gym. Whatever the excuse may be: fatigue, time or plain old laziness, many find themselves stuck on the couch instead of the treadmill. To be fair, not all of us are gym rats and the thought of physical strain just isn’t appealing. But what if you had something to work towards? Something more than just how you look and feel? An actual tangible goal you could look achieve or even better … a vacation.
If you’re having trouble getting motivated to exercise, plan your next vacation at a time and place that coincides with some sort of fitness event. A sprint triathlon, half marathon or kayaking race are great ideas. This will serve to get friends, family and yourself excited about exercise as well as looking and feeling great for your trip. Don’t worry, most of these are non-competitive family events which welcome all levels of skill and experience.
Be sure to pick your destination and event well in advance, so you have time to get excited and train. Then get friends or family to join in the fun too. Training together will help keep everyone motivated and also gives you someone to celebrate your success with at the finish line. Plan the trip so the event lands at the beginning. This will give you time to relax and enjoy the rest of your vacation carefree. Remember that the vacation is the reward, but you must put in the work to get it. Make the most of your next vacation!
