Total weight lost: 200 lbs
One word to describe you before: Ignorant!!! I had no idea how much I was missing out on.
One word to describe you NOW: Vibrant! Nothing holds me back from anything.
Tell us about the “old” you: I thought I was successful and happy. But in fact, I had lied to myself and others so much, that I had started to believe it. I was so used to hearing that I was “big and beautiful”, that I thought that also made me happy. Looking back at it, I was protecting myself from my true emotions and feelings, in order to try to think that life was ok.
What finally prompted your full-blown commitment to fitness and weight loss? A friend of mine was interning for Carly Asse, Owner of Zen Fitness, asked me to come in and interview for a role in a weight loss documentary. The movie was called Unsupersize Me and after an interview and a physical screening, I was cast in the role. I was not immediately hooked, but abided by the simple guidelines being given to me. First week, I lost 17 lbs and the second week I lost 10 more lbs. That’s when I was hooked! I immediately started to feel better, my skin cleared up, I slept better, handled stress better and most importantly, was happy.
Give us a brief explanation of your workouts and changes in eating habits which got you from there to here. The rules of the film were simple, diet and exercise. I ate a plant-based whole foods diet, and did an hour of cardio and an hour of weight training every day. Currently I work out about an hour a day and still abide by a plant-based whole foods diet.
What kind of workouts do you do now? Running and weight training. Last year I completed by first full marathon! I’m not fast, but I’m doing it!
Is healthy eating hard for you? Not at all, it makes me feel good. I concentrate on how the food makes me feel. Bad food makes me feel bad, and good food makes me feel good!
What kinds of things have you accomplished as a result of your weight loss and fitness training?I have completed seven half marathons and one whole marathon! I love my race bling.
Most fun part of being the new you: I love being able to live life. As crazy as that sounds, I had no idea how much easier life is, when I don’t have to think about fitting into cars, fitting into booths at restaurants, huffing and puffing going up stairs, necklace chain extenders and more.
Favorite healthy food/dish: I love the “where’s my protein?” salad that I make. It’s here on my blog.
Favorite unhealthy food: Potato Chips. Darn those salty little things.
Favorite training song: “Let’s Go” by Neyo
Advice for others who need to lose major weight? Concentrate on the positives. Think about how good you feel after you eat healthy and keep at it. Life is easier when you’re fit.
I would just like to sthaay that I myself have struggled with my weight all my life. But back in November of 2015 I got a health scare and that’s when I started the Dr Phil diet called the 20/20 diet. I have now lost over 25 lbs and feel great. I have a long way to go but I will get there. I’m a type 2 diabetic so it’s really hard for me but I know
Just looked at the documentary it is soo inspirational. One question I have is what happens to the skin I too have over 100 to lose scared about the sagging skin.
That depends on a lot of factors. If you are younger, your skin is likely more elastic and able to bounce back. If you lose weight at a slow/moderate pace … your skin has a better chance of recovering the way you’d like it to. If you achieve your goal weight which is priority number one … and your skin is still loose, you’d likely have to deal with a plastic surgeon to take care of that. Hope you prioritize weight loss over skin though. Loose skin is annoying, but 100 extra pounds is life-threatening.
