When it comes to inspiring stories about weight loss, one of the nation’s most popular television shows, “The Biggest Loser”, often comes to your mind. We love to see average Joes work hard to lose weight, and we root for them through every struggle and triumph.  Rachel Frederickson, the TV show’s latest winner, shed an astounding 155 pounds this past season. She dropped from 260 pounds to a mere 105, and brought home the grand prize for the amount of weight that she lost. Although she looks absolutely gorgeous with her new transformation, her extreme weight loss has had people around the country buzzing. Has she lost too much weight? Is she too thin?

Looking at this before picture, it is clear that Frederickson needed to shed some pounds. And that is exactly what she did. Coming in at only 5’4″, her 155 pound weight loss means that she lost over 60% of her body weight. According to an article by USA Today, Frederickson’s “body mass index (BMI, a number that takes into account height and weight) is 18, which is considered underweight. For her height, a normal weight range would be 108-145 pound.” Rachel has responded to the criticism by saying: “First and foremost, my goals are to be healthy and strong,” the 24-year-old, who is now a size 0/2, told reporters, according to People magazine. “I’m an athlete. I’ve been an athlete since I was a little girl. And I went on ‘The Biggest Loser’ journey to find that confidence that I lost.”

I can applaud Rachel for her hard work and determination in losing the weight. As long as she can maintain a healthy weight post-TV, all of her training will have paid off. Although many people believe that she has lost too much weight, she has the confidence and now has the skills to continue her life in a healthy way.
