School Snacks Parents Can Feel Great About

By July 31, 2013October 29th, 2014No Comments

Snacks can be stressful! I have really high standards for my kids, and I simply can’t justify tossing absolute crap in their lunch boxes, backpack or sports bags. YES!!! I want them to have convenient little packages of food, but no – a big blob of sugar, flour and partially hydrogenated oils will never do. If you’re like me and you insist on high quality nutritious snacks that also taste great while being convenient, check out our list of favorites below.

KIND Bars: Folks, I can’t tell you how much I love these things. My 8-year-old son, Parker, has a special obsession with them and I couldn’t be more grateful. They’re made from all-natural ingredients we can pronounce, some of them contain dark chocolate (score) and their high protein content makes them filling. Our favorite flavors? 1. Dark Chocolate Chili Almond 2.  Blueberry Vanilla and Cashew 3. Dark Chocolate Cherry Cashew & Antioxidants 4. Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt. I’ll take 7,452 boxes please!

Popcorn Indiana Fit Popcorn: If you own plastic baggies, filling them up with this stuff is a great idea! Available in a variety of flavors this gluten-free all-natural product is a much better choice than your traditional buttery bagged popcorn. Fill up baggies at the beginning of the week and then grab one whenever your cutie’s going to eat on the go.

Crunchmaster Multi-Seed Crackers taste great, come in a variety of flavors, are low in fat and sell in individual packages. Pair them with Wild Garden Hummus Dip for a more filling treat. These are also sold in individual pouches.

Trail Mix: Okay, you’re probably thinking “no, duh!” But unless your kids have a nut allergy – those skinny bags of nuts, seeds and raisins are a no-brainer! Sidebar – I really hope your kids do NOT have a nut allergy. They’re awful, right?

healthy snacks school fruit

Sturdy produce: Apples, peal-able citrus (oranges, tangerines), pears and baggies of carrots will hold their freshness throughout the school day without needing to be refrigerated. Where items like bananas, tomatoes and plums may get a little gross, the aforementioned choices will be good to go at after-school.
