During these cold winter months, it can be hard to find fresh herbs or keep up with your outdoor garden.  Why not start a small indoor garden so you can have fresh herbs all year round?  With the helpful tips from the TLC network and website, you can get started on your own herb garden right away.

First, find a large planter that can fit several different types of herbs in the same pot.  Fill the planter about ¾ of the way full with quality potting soil.  Either plant your favorite herb seeds, or go to the local hardware store and purchase herb plants that are ready to be planted.  Once the herb seeds or plants are in place, position the pot so it is near the window.  Your herb planter should receive around 6 hours of sunlight a day.  Be sure to water your herbs judiciously, keeping the soil moist.

The herbs will start to grow and be ready to use in your kitchen dishes in no time.  Not sure what herbs to use in your kitchen planter?  Try planting basil, which is great for jazzing up salads, pasta dishes, or make tomato, mozzarella, and basil bites as appetizers.  Rosemary is a wonderful herb for starchy side dishes such as sweet potatoes or brown rice.  Finally, if you’re a fan of southwestern or Mexican style cuisine, cilantro is an herb that you are going to want in your garden.  This fresh and almost citrusy flavor will leave your guacamole or fajitas tasting authentic.

Fresh herbs can really brighten a dull and gloomy dish, especially during these cold winter months.  So start your indoor herb garden and choose your favorites!  Who knows, your new herbs could inspire you to make some amazing new culinary creations!
