Would you believe that you could treat dull hair, satisfy your hunger, and moisturize your skin all with one tiny fruit? That’s right, the avocado holds some amazing secrets to help improve your health and enrich your beauty.

Nutrition: According to the California Avocado Commission, the avocado is rich in nutrients, including substantial amounts of potassium, Vitamin K, and fiber.  These nutrients are beneficial to your overall health, and make the avocado an essential part of a healthy diet.  In fact, many dietary programs and the world’s leading nutrition organizations such as the USDA include avocados as part of their healthy living nutrition guidelines.

Uses: As mentioned earlier, you don’t just have to eat avocados to enjoy the benefits.  Listed below are ways to indulge in the avocado, whether you’re at the dinner table or in the shower.

Fresh Guacamole Recipe: This guacamole recipe is simple yet refreshing way to spice up your Mexican dishes or a football tailgate.  You will need:

  • 3 ripe avocados
  • 1 large tomato, chopped
  • 1 medium sweet onion, finely chopped
  • Juice from ½ of a lime
  • Handful of fresh cilantro, chopped
  •  Salt to taste

1. Cut open avocados, remove and dispose of seeds

2. Scoop out avocados into large bowl, smash together

3. Add chopped tomato, chopped onions, juice of lime, and chopped cilantro, and mix well

4. Add salt to taste as a final touch and serve with pita bread or tortilla chips

Hair Conditioner: Take the inside of one avocado and mix with a tablespoon of olive oil.  Apply to damp hair for 20-30 minutes.  Rinse hair with warm water, and shampoo normally after all the mixture is fully rinsed out.  Hair will look shinier and healthier, as well as feel smoother.

Skin Moisturizer: Take the peel of the avocado and lightly massage the inside of the peel on dry area.  The face, elbows, and heels are targeted areas for dry skin, and a good place to massage the peel.  Leave the oils from the peel on your skin for 10 minutes and then rinse with warm water for smoother, softer skin.
