Fiction! Most of the cardio machines at the gym over-estimate how many calories you burn. Calories burned determine on a variety of things:

  • Weight
  • Height
  • Age
  • Intensity
  • Heart Rate

All of these things are taken into account to approximate how many calories you burn for anything. A 6 foot tall, 180 lbs male running at 6.0 mph and a 1% incline on the treadmill will burn much more than a 5’6″, 145 lb woman running at the same 6.0 mph and a 1% incline. The most accurate way to test that information is to purchase a heart rate monitor to wear throughout your workouts. That would allow you to input your personal information and garner more accurate information about your workouts.

Don’t always believe the machines!
