USA weightlifting known as the USAW is the national governing body overseeing the Olympic trials. American weightlifters are usually legitimate medal contenders and the 2012 Summer Games in London should be no different. Check out some of the American powerhouses competing this year.
Holley Mangold: Her favorite competition lift is the Snatch. Fun facts: She was a speed skating champion at the age of five. Mangold had to lift over a quarter ton over her head to qualify at this year’s 2012 Olympics.
Sarah Robles: Her favorite competition lift is also the Snatch. Mangold and Robles went side by side in competing for a spot in the Olympics. Her life goals include becoming a coach, getting married, and eventually having kids. Her favorite competition lift is the Clean and Jerk.
Kendrick Farris: Farris began lifting when he was 12-years-old after his uncle, Kevin Burns, read an article in the newspaper about a weightlifting development center for young athletes. Less than 10 years after his introduction to the sport, Farris won back-to-back national titles in 2006 and 2007. Farris’s favorite competition lift is the Clean and Jerk. He enjoys doing stand-up comedy in his spare time as well as editing/producing movies.
