Shaving is a necessary evil for most men, and it is probably one the most aggravating parts of our morning routines. Improper shaving can cause irritation, bumps, and cuts that can wreak havoc on the health and appearance of your skin.
Keep it Wet: Most of us shave after getting out the shower. The warm water with soften hair for a smoother shave. Don’t towel dry your face before you shave. Leave it wet so the hair doesn’t have a chance to dry out.
Exfoliate First: Using a good face scrub prior to shaving will remove dirt, oil, and any excess skin cells. This will allow you to shave closer and with less irritation. The facial wash will also serve to further soften your facial hair.
Stay Sharp: Having a sharp razor is essential. Dull razors create more friction, which can lead to skin irritation and ingrown hairs. Replace your razor head every three weeks at minimum.
Lather Up: Modern shaving creams do a great job at softening hair and reducing friction, but you have to use enough. Apply a thick layer to your beard and neck and let it sit for a minute before beginning.
Shave the tough spots last: The hair on your neck and chin tend to be coarser than the rest of you beard. Shave these spots last to allow more time for the shaving cream to soften the hair.
Moisturize: After you shave, wash your face and dry it with a clean towel, then apply a facial moisturizer to help your skin and pores recover from the damage of the razor.
