Make a Bet: Nothing can spur progress like some good old fashion competition. Make a bet with a buddy, spouse, neighbor, parent, child or boss about a fitness goal. First one to lose 15 lbs, first one with a six pack, first one to touch your toes or the first to bench press 250 lbs. Whatever your goal is, step up and put your money where your mouth is.

Grab the Fat: The next time you want to skip a workout, exhale and grab your stomach with both hands. Remind yourself that what you’re holding is pure body fat. That should get you in the car and headed to the gym in no time.

Harder First: We all have exercises that we hate, but we know we need to do them anyways. Do the most difficult exercise first and save your favorites for last. This will keep you motivated throughout the workout since you know the fun stuff is coming up.

Keep Track of your Streak: Make your gym-going streak into a game. Just keep track of how many days it’s been since you’ve missed a workout. The higher that number gets, the harder it will be for you to miss one.

Blackmail Photos: Take a before picture of yourself in your skivvies and post it as your computer background. It will serve as a daily reminder of why your working out. It’s a great way to utilize the power of guilt. Oh, how Faceobok comes in handy!

Sign up for a Vacation Race: Sign up for a distance race somewhere far away from your home. Purchase your hotel room and air fare way ahead of time. That way, the financial expenditure you’ve already made will make sure your training stays on track.
