Now that warmer weather is making it’s way around, spending time in the sun while looking toned and feeling great is on everybody’s mind. But, too often, the idea of our sexy stomach and golden skin overshadows our hair health and leaves it looking frazzled and dry. The good part is, you CAN keep beautiful hair while playing and relaxing poolside!

  • Shell out the extra money for leave-in conditioners during bikini season. Notably, look for products that contain beta-carotene and green tea. It creates more of a protective layer on each strand, making it less likely that the sun and salt water will get to your hair.
  • Try after-sun shampoo to rinse out all chlorine and/or salt water that may be left behind. This product will go the extra mile so that you don’t have to visit your hairdresser any extra times!
  • Wear a hat.
  • Rinse off in tap water both before AND after jumping in the water, if possible. Rinsing off beforehand with tap water will cause the tap water to actually bind to your hair, making it less likely to absorb the chemicals from the pool water.

All of these suggestions are great to keep in mind for beach vacations, but be sure to incorporate these tips into your everyday life if you enjoy working out in or around water. Love to swim laps to burn your calories? Throw on a swim cap. Surf? You better have conditioner on you at all times! Water workouts add resistance to your body, making you burn more calories in a shorter amount of time. It’s a win-win; work out in the water while working on beautiful hair. An irresistible combo!
