Thank you to Ubisoft for providing me with a copy of Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2012 and sponsoring this fitness diary series. Please click here to learn more about Ubisoft. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective. All opinions are my own.
After having the pleasure of utilizing Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2012 for five weeks as a component of my work, I can honestly say that I love this game and would highly recommend it to any fan of fitness. It offers the perfect combination of various workout options and various training levels. If you’re a beginner who doesn’t have a taste yet for hard core fitness moves like squat jumps or triceps pushups, you will find yourself happily burning calories with fun dance classes like Latin, Bollywood, African or Hip Hop. You’ll enjoy warming up with sporty moves like juggling soccer balls or shooting soccer balls in to virtual nets. Yoga, aerobics, basic boxing moves, strength training and more will help you get moderately active while keeping your brain highly stimulated.
If you’re in need of a challenge, some shaky muscles and a super sweaty body … you’ll want to go a different route. I’m a super fit chic who loves to be pushed, but let me start by saying I absolutely LOVED all of the fun stuff referenced above too. I certainly did. With my time being precious though, I normally CHOSE to take on the meaner workout routines. This meant, that if I had 45 minutes to an hour and I wanted to train like a beast, I did the following. I’d start by warming up with the more advanced Stomp It or Jump Roping routines. The advanced jump roping portion, is guaranteed to kick your behind, just as it did mine. It’s wonderful! After that, I would pursue one of the advanced Boot Camp classes, followed by an advanced Sports Preparation class. Both will get your heart rate up and make your muscles quiver. This recipe makes for a fairly advanced workout, completed in a short amount of time, done in the comforts of your living room. Perfection!
I didn’t reference a workout plan for folks who are of intermediate fitness levels, because this game is ultra-customizable and really … you could do any combination of training to achieve your needs. Absolutely EVERY training option has a beginner, intermediate and advanced training level to choose from. There is something for adults of all ages, and that makes YSFE 2012 pretty darn impressive. I even allowed my super-fit personal training client Kristen to train with this game during three of her sessions and she was physically blown away.
Most important in this recipe for success is that you get this game to use with your XBOX with Kinect and that you incorporate it in to your training routine. Plan to utilize it several times a week, or plan to burn a certain amount of calories with it each week. Setting goals and sticking to them, as always, is the ideal way to get the most out of a fitness endeavour. I’d like to thank Ubisoft for inviting me to experience and review this game. I tip my Fitness Pro hat to you for creating this masterpiece. My heart will break when my loaner XBOX and Kinect are gone. I’d also like to thank CleverGirls for ensuring I took part as well. YSFE 2012 was a perfect match for Fitzness.com; I’ve been proud to introduce it to our audience.

overall sounds like a great game with variety of games and challenges 🙂
I just bought the game yesterday and am looking forward to starting my workouts. I put the game in last night and put in my objectives, but I couldnt find where to get to the personal training or the suggested workouts. Could you please tell me where I am missing the boat?
Unfortunately I’m not near my machine Chris, so I can’t help. However … I do recall it asking me to select my goals – weight loss, toning, conditioning, etc … and then it just spit out suggestions. Visit the Your Shape Fitness Evolved site for further details. Sorry!
Hey!
I am going to be using it to suppliment a traithlon training program.
Just curious what lb weights you would recommend to accompany the game?
It depends how strong you are, but I would keep a set of 5 and 10 lb dumbbells nearby, maybe even a 15. But the small weights should work well, because you’ll do a lot of reps.
